Racial tensions in the US often emanate from conflicts at the neighbourhood level. This lecture describes and analyses variations in inter-group hostilities and discusses the implications for the future of race and ethnic relations in the US and public policy designed to address racial conflict.
William Julius Wilson is a Harvard University Professor and Director of the Joblessness and Urban Poverty Research Programme at the John F Kennedy School of Government Harvard University. He is a past president of the American Sociological Association and is a MacArthur Prize Fellow. His most outstanding works are 'The Truly Disadvantaged' and 'When Work Disappears'
