Many of our seminars and public events this year will continue as in person or as hybrid (online and in person) events. Please check our website listings and Twitter feed @STICERD_LSE for updates.
Unless otherwise specified, in-person seminars are open to the public. Please ensure you have informed the event contact as early as possible.
Those unable to join the seminars in-person are welcome to participate via zoom if the event is hybrid.
About this event
The Summit will be the public launch of the new LSE Programme on Cohesive Capitalism, a major multi-disciplinary initiative to investigate new politico-economic paradigms, institutions and policies that could serve the common interest. The Programme is funded by the Open Society Foundations, and is based in STICERD and the Economics department.
The Summit will bring together a group of around 40 invited thinkers from LSE and elsewhere, and the aim is to share ideas and build a community of people thinking about the future of capitalism. I’ve attached a draft programme.
This is subject to change, but as you will see the focus will be a series of panel discussions on themes related to the programme, including deliberative democracy, equality of opportunity and new models of work and ownership; as well as two lunchtime sessions with philosopher Lea Ypi (LSE) and writer Nick Romeo (Berkeley), each talking about their recent books.
Our hope is that participants will commit to attending the full two day programme, and we have some funds available to cover expenses for those who need it.
Alongside this core programme will be two public events, one on each evening, on the topics of ‘Alternatives to neoliberalism’ and ‘How to build a cohesive society?’, chaired (respectively) by LSE President Larry Kramer and the Programme Director Tim Besley.
By Invitation only.
