About this event
Sir Nick Clegg (former UK Deputy Prime Minister and Meta’s President of Global Affairs) presents his new book, How to Save the Internet: The Threat to Global Connection in the Age of AI and Political Conflict.
Listen to a recording of the event:
How to Save the Internet: The Threat to Global Connection in the Age of AI and Political Conflict.
Drawing on unique insights gained from his time at Meta and in government, Clegg examines the growing fragmentation of the global internet:
- How democratic regulation, nationalist agendas, and authoritarian controls threaten the internet's unity.
- Why imposing national borders on the internet is a perilous solution that risks undermining its vital functions in knowledge-sharing, collaboration, education, trade, and scientific progress.
While advocating for necessary reforms to Big Tech, Clegg argues that many criticisms such as algorithmic manipulation and societal polarization are overblown or inaccurate.
This event will be chaired by LSE president Larry Kramer.
In Person Attendance: Open to all; free admission with registration open later in September.
Online Attendance: To attend via zoom register here
