About this event

Cecilia (Ceci) Rouse, the Katzman-Ernst Professor in Economics and Education, and Professor of Economics and Public Affairs at Princeton University will give this year’s Morishima Lecture.

Professor Rouse is on leave from Princeton while she serves as the Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers for the Biden Administration and is the first African American to hold this position. A labour economist with a focus on the economics of education Rouse is the founding director of the Princeton Education Research Section and a member of the National Academy of Education. From 2009 to 2011, she served as a member of President Barack Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers. She worked at the National Economic Council in the Clinton administration as a Special Assistant to the President from 1998 to 1999.

STICERD Director Tim Besley, School Professor of Economics of Political Science and W. Arthur Lewis Professor of Development Economics in the Department of Economics at LSE, will chair the event.

The Morishima lecture series is held in honour of Professor Michio Morishima (1923-2004), Sir John Hicks Professor of Economics at LSE and STICERD's first chairman.
