About this event
In this talk Dr Doyle, from the Centre for Neurodiversity Research at Work will discuss both sides of the Neurodiversity Movement coin. A seemingly new narrative in employment and the business press, the Neurodiversity phenomenon is actually thriving grassroots movement, emerging from the chat rooms of the late 1990s, where Autistic people having been isolated for centuries, began to connect and cooperate, enabled by technology. Now encompassing a wide range of minority neurotypes, there is a dynamic tension between promise and reality, both for individuals seeking social inclusion and for employers seeking a diverse, creative team. The talk will cover the history of neurodiversity (Doyle, 2020), a summary of the contemporary literature and avenues for exploration in research and policy (Doyle & McDowall, 2021).
