About this event
We measure gender norms facing men and women and the relative strength of those norms. We find that while gender norms regarding acceptable behavior for women have progressed, norms for men are relatively homogenous across both time and space. We then begin to examine the implications for this stagnation on women's empowerment. Given the low observed levels of correlation between views of acceptable behavior for women and behavior for men, efforts focused on solely empowering women may fail to achieve gains as men resist taking on tasks proscribed by masculine gender norms.
STICERD Psychology and Economics seminars are held on Tuesdays in term time at different times and in various locations. Please see details on the individual listing.
Seminar organisers: Dr Kristóf Madarász
