About this event
Most people in high income countries work within an organisation, often very large with several layers of management. Most people in low income countries work on their own or with family members. Why and how do organisations form? Do relational contracts within firms jump start the process of development by allowing trades that could not happen in the market?
These are fundamental questions at the heart of economics. To answer them we need to bridge the expertise of organisational economists (who mostly take the existence of organisations as given) and of scholars of development (who mostly take the lack of organisation as given). This is what this conference aims to do.
We invite papers that straddle, or have the potential to straddle, the two fields. All methods and sectors (public, private, non-profit) welcome.
The conference will be held at the London School of Economics and Political Science on 18 &19 May 2023 and will be in person only.
You can see the programme here.
