Michio Morishima, economics and LSE

Michio Morishima (1923-2004) was an internationally renowned economist from Japan, known for his work on the theory of the capitalist economy, general equilibrium theory, activity analysis and broader economics. With an academic career spanning Kyoto, Osaka, Yale, Oxford and Essex universities, Morishima accepted his first post at LSE in 1970. He was instrumental as founding Chair of the Suntory-Toyota International Centres for Economics and Related Disciplines (STICERD) in 1978 before becoming Sir John Hicks Professor of Economics in 1982. He was made an Honorary Fellow in 1991.
