Gaetano Basso is a senior economist in the Households and Labour Market Division at the Bank of Italy within the Directorate-General for Economics, Statistics, and Research. In 2023, he led the Labour Market Outlook Unit. His research interests include the economics of migration, the consequences of emigration on entrepreneurship, and the effects of public policies on labour market dynamism. His work has been published in AEJ: Applied Economics, the Journal of Economic Perspectives, Economic Policy, and Labour Economics. He also actively engages in public policy: in 2020-22, he served an economic advisor to the Italian Minister for relations with the Parliament. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Davis (2016).
