CASE Social Exclusion Seminars

The scale and drivers of inequalities in and by mental health

Praveetha Patalay (Centre for Longitudinal Studies and MRC Unit for Lifelong Health & Ageing at UCL)

Wednesday 20 October 2021 16:30 - 18:00

This event will take place online.

About this event

In this talk, some recent evidence related to the extent of inequalities in adolescent mental health by various different socio-demographic indicators (sex/gender, ethnicity, sexuality, socioeconomic) will be presented, first in the UK and then more widely across various countries. Findings from some ongoing research will be then shared where drivers of these observed inequalities are sought to be identified. Findings related to inequalities in later life outcomes by mental health will also be presented, how these might be changing across generations and the implications of these for efforts to reduce adverse lifelong consequences of early life mental health difficulties.
