Biography

Kerris is experienced in both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Her research has focused on poverty and inequality in the UK, including the relationship between poverty and child and adult outcomes across a range of domains. Her thesis explored the relationship between poverty, maternal mental health and parenting. Kerris’ more recent work has evaluated to what extent social policies have managed to reduce inequalities including in the areas of social security, employment and physical safety.

Kerris Cooper's current research interests are:

  • The relationship between poverty and child development
  • The relationship between poverty and adult well-being
  • The relationship between economic hardship, maternal mental health and parenting
  • Social security policies and welfare reform
  • The role of social policies in exacerbating or alleviating inequalities
  • Unequal risks of violence, including by gender, age and ethnicity
