HINPE Huth Initiative for a New Political Economy

Bringing together experts from economics, politics, and philosophy to reimagine the relationship between markets, government and society.

Shaping the next economic paradigm

The world faces a daunting array of economic challenges.

Structural shifts are driving inequality, insecurity and political unrest; AI promises both enormous benefits and unprecedented disruption; economic and political power is concentrating in the hands of tech oligopolies; and the climate crisis poses a potentially existential threat. Business, work, government and global institutions are all being reshaped.

Meeting these challenges requires fresh thinking about our goals as a society, and about how markets, civil society and government can work together to achieve them. In other words, a new political economy.

That is what Huth Initiative for a New Political Economy was created for. Based at the London School of Economics and Political Science, we bring together leading economists, political scientists and philosophers to develop a new economic paradigm for fairer, more sustainable prosperity.

We need to study the entirety of how the economy functions - the kinds of communities it develops, the kind of sensibilities it supports, and the kind of political processes that enable us to have effective economic policies.
