Young Scholars Programme
Shaping the next generation of political economy scholars

The 21st century poses unique challenges that require new, interdisciplinary approaches to political economy. To support early-career researchers in developing these approaches, the Huth Initiative for a New Political Economy is launching a Young Scholars Programme.
The programme is open to current LSE PhD students in any department who are entering years 2-5 of their doctoral studies.
Huth Young Scholars will benefit from:
- a £5,000 research bursary
- invitation to the monthly Huth Forum and exclusive Huth events
- a biweekly research seminar to present and exchange ideas in an interdisciplinary group
Young Scholars will be expected to regularly attend events of the Huth Initiative to foster a community of like-minded researchers. The ultimate aim is to work together and develop new approaches towards understanding and solving society's most pressing problems, which will require projects that cut across disciplinary boundaries.
To apply, please send an email to hinpe@lse.ac.uk with the reference "Application to Young Scholars Programme" and the following four files in PDF format by Sunday, 13 September 2026:
- A short essay (up to 500 words) on the following topic: What do you wish for from a New Political Economy? How do you see your current or future research contributing to its development.
- A short research statement (up to 500 words).
- A two-page CV.
- A writing sample from an existing essay/project written during your current or previous studies (30 pages maximum; cut pages as needed to be within the limit).
