Friday 17 October 2025 09:30 - 15:30

Many of our seminars and public events this year will continue as in person or as hybrid (online and in person) events. Please check our website listings and Twitter feed @STICERD_LSE for updates.

Unless otherwise specified, in-person seminars are open to the public. Please ensure you have informed the event contact as early as possible.

Those unable to join the seminars in-person are welcome to participate via zoom if the event is hybrid.

About this event

How do gender norms influence economic behaviour, choices, and opportunities? This event will bring together researchers to present new evidence on the ways cultural expectations and social attitudes shape economic life.

Topics include how attitudes toward men and women evolve, the role of managers in transmitting gender norms, and the link between financial awareness and maternal labour supply.

Further sessions will address how anticipated discrimination affects education and career choices, the relationship between female entrepreneurship and trust in markets, and community-based approaches to empowering adolescent girls. Together these studies highlight how norms and perceptions can create barriers to equality, but also open avenues for effective policy responses.
