About this event

Polly Vizard, Tania Burchardt and Polina Obolenskaya will present findings from forthcoming papers on health and social care as part of the Social Policies and Distributional Outcomes research programme funded by Nuffield Foundation. The papers use the SPDO framework to evaluate developments between 2015 to pre-COVID 2020, reporting on goals, policies, resources, inputs/outputs and outcomes, comparing the state of health and adult social care provision and policy at the end of the Coalition government period to February 2020. Policies of the Cameron, May and Johnson administrations are reviewed, together with an analysis of trends in public and private spending, and in service provision. Outcomes are assessed through a range of indicators. For health, these include measures of quality, trends in mortality, good health and non-medical determinants. For adult social care, these include measures of quality and safeguarding, healthcare integration and pressure on unpaid carers. The final sections of the papers address the strengths and weaknesses of the health and social care systems on the eve of the COVID-19 pandemic. The first presentation will focus on health, and the second on adult social care. **The audio recording of the event is available below. Skip to audio minute 46.07 for adult social care presentation.**
