Biography
Gabriel is a PhD candidate in the Department of Economics. He works in Development Economics, focussing on social protection, labour markets and gender inequality in low- and middle-income countries. In his job market paper, he studies the mechanisms and contextual factors that enable cash transfer programmes to have a positive impact on employment. He finds that a large cash transfer programme in Brazil increases women’s employment by relaxing childcare constraints, and that this effect can be complemented by better provision of local education infrastructure. In his job market paper, he studies the mechanisms and contextual factors that enable cash transfer programmes to have a positive impact on women's employment. He also works on quantifying the role of parenthood on gender inequality, and equilibrium effects of policies related to environmental conservation and social housing.
